Tips for
Fishing Spinner Rigs
- Spinner rigs work
exceptionally well on walleyes that are spread out over deep
structure. With a spinner rig you can cover some ground with live
bait, good options when the fish aren’t concentrated in one spot
and prefer some real meat.
- Pick the sinker
based on how deep you’re fishing and how fast you need to travel to
keep the spinner spinning. I like a bottom bouncer style of sinker
when I’m going deep with a spinner rig. The goal is to keep the
rig on or near the bottom almost directly under the boat with enough
speed to keep the blade turning.
- Sometimes a short
distance between the sinker and spinner works, sometimes you need
more distance. You just have to experiment to see what the walleyes
prefer.
- Spinner size is
dictated by how aggressive the walleyes are. If the fish are finicky
use a small spinner. Use a bigger blade if the fish are more
aggressive.
- If the spinner is
getting snagged in rocks but the sinker is not, either speed up to
keep the spinner off the bottom or shorten the distance between the
sinker and the spinner.
